Njoying my first Starbucks coffee in Dubai

A kid having the time of her life at DBX

Dec 21, 2011

Reached Dubai International airport (DBX) at 6 a.m after a long and exhaustive flight. The excitement finally nears completion as I googled on things to do at the airport. I’ve heard how huge the airport is and one can get tired walking but it never ceases to end. After getting direction by airport officials, the passengers go through the security check at DBX. One can see several Chinese nationals working at the security point and these ladies and gentlemen are charming and kind.

The security at DBX is very strict and passengers must remove their leather belts and if you are wearing a leather pair of shoes, you are advised to remove them for the purpose of security. I must say that the procedure is a smooth one and it’s quite efficient. As I claimed my luggage and wore my belt to take on the escalator, I realized that I’ve forgotten some chocolates and cigarettes which I purchased at the duty-free shop. As I turned around, I saw an idiot nicely carrying my stuffs as if it was his prized belongings. I immediately stopped the guy and told him, excuse me that’s mine. This loser had nowhere to look as he handed me my stuffs.

All things done, now time to find a place to smoke and one has to tread cautiously since one cannot smoke at the airport. I asked a lovely lady from China where I can get a place to smoke and she guided me to some restaurant. Of course, I need to take a long walk to fulfil my wish. Before that, I spotted a Starbucks outlet and in no way, I’m gonna miss that as I shed 5 euro to have my coffee. I was pretty excited since I had my first Starbucks coffee. This is something I shall never forget. Must say the coffee was worth the money spent. Totally worth!

In Dubai airport, if you wanna smoke, you should go to Dubai International Hotel, The Hub and the place is abuzz with foreigners waiting for the next flight. One can see people smoking the weed as well and beer is pouring in every glasses. The service is quite slow. The only hitch is that they might tender you the change in Durham even if one pays in Euro or dollar. I met a very beautiful German chick, Jennifer and we started chatting about life, her studies and smoked a lot..cigarettes yaar. I ordered an Irish coffee which I didn’t finish. On my way, to the Mumbai terminal I met some South African family of Indian origin and exchanged a few words with them.

The Mumbai terminal was quite far and kept asking for directions to the airport officials. The airport is huge and I was completely bowled by the duty-free shops. It looks more like a shopping mall crowded by passengers. Man! The airport is so big that a bus has to ferry passengers towards our Mumbai flight and as we boarded the Emirates plane, I felt so great as I climbed the walkway as I could feel the breeze of air. That’s beautiful. Bye DBX.

January 10,

On my way back to Dubai, I couldn’t roam free at the airport since I was carrying a 7-kilo hand luggage plus my travel bag. So, the next priority was to go The Hub and wait for my flight scheduled in three hours. Met two guys, Ralph and another dude from China and I’ve got good company, having a smoke and speaking about life and their countries. Ralph tells me that he is on a travel spree and going to Bali. Wow! I envy the dude. We exchanged e-mails and after 2 hours, I set off to my destination. I would love to re-visit DBX again and I just loove d airport. It’s such a beautiful airport surrounded by huge shops, restaurants and well maintained, of course. This time, I gonna enter the country as well.

Love
